Real Unemployment 19.1%

Filed under: The Financial Crisis — totallygroovygirlfriday @ 4:13 pm

John Williams from shadowstats.com has taken the gimmicks out of the governments unemployment numbers. It’s not 5% or 8%, it is 19.1%.

What would we do without John? We would know the government was lying, but not know by how much. His link is on my blog roll.

For a little perspective, unemployment high during the Depression was somewhere between 30% and 34%. During the 1970’s recession, it was 15%. This number will get worse before it gets better.

Make sure you have some savings, in case you are out of a job for a while. Look into developing a second income, whether a second formal job or your own business. Pull together ideas with other unemployed friends.
