muses of the moment

So, groovygirl watched the Pope’s Installation and St. Joseph Day’s Mass in Rome today. She is not Catholic, (so she may not have the verb-age right), but since this change in power has not happened in hundreds of years, she was very interested in what this new Pope had to say.

She listened. And most everything about this new era in the Catholic Church is different from the last.

She also listened to the news commentators.

Groovygirl didn’t hear exactly what the news people heard. She heard a call to meekness. Meekness is a godly attribute very close to groovygirl’s heart. One that she strives to emulate, but very often fails.

Although there are many definitions of meekness, gg likes this one:

Meekness is power, under control.

Meekness is expressed when you put aside your demands, dues, and power, because it honors God and His glory. So, it is the power rightfully given to you by God and/or man under God’s control, not your own.

Meekness is not weakness. Because the power is rightfully yours to use or not. But it is set aside, curtailed, to honor God.

I can think of no better message to a world facing the cycle that we are facing.

Groovygirl would like meekness to be part of the new definition of success that we will have to form in the future. Since wealth and money will not be part of that definition anymore. Unless, you want to be continuously disappointed….

  1. Thanks, TGG. I think this is your best post by far.

  2. I too, although not Catholic as well, was taken back by his words. I haven’t heard the term “meekness” in quite some time. Definately not an attribute that one will find in the Western world, however one that is quoted as a Godly attribute in the Bible. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thanks, Ken. groovygirl has many fields of study, one being the Bible. Sometimes she slips one in. But the focus right now is economics, long term investment theories, and protecting your capital/savings during a debt collapse.

At some point I may start another blog on Christian theological teaching and theory 🙂

    Or permaculture….

    Or sustainability/energy saving design….

    Or nutrition/health….

    Or alternative medicines/herbs….

    Or ?

    Thanks for reading,

  5. I believe the quote from the Sermon on the Mount is “the meek shall inherit the earth” which is exactly what you are talking about. In the end only those that can handle the power with meekness and love are the ones that will be responsible to use it.

  6. Kevin,

    So true.
