The Truth about Retirement Investing

Filed under: 401K and IRAs, DOW and S&P500, Odds 'n ends, The Financial Crisis, Unemployment, US Government Debt — totallygroovygirlfriday @ 2:58 am

Click here for Frontline’s April 2013 episode about Retirement. LOTS of excellent points brought up in this documentary.

Should have gone much farther though, stocks, funds, and bonds are not the only investment class for retirement and savings.

Extremely refreshing that they actually bring up that fees can steal two-thirds of your money over time. However, probably should have brought that up 30 years ago…..

  1. Yes, I have been a milk cow for State Street and ING for many years. Their funds consistently underperform the market indexes.

  2. Hi GG,

Do you subscribe to any investment newsletters? If so, do you have any that you could recommend? I have subscribed to a number of newsletters over the years but none at the moment. Several standouts for me; the Aden Forecast, Chris Weber’s Global Opportunities Report, the Golden Jackass, and Bob Chapman’s Report. The Aden Forecast was great because they started including updates from Harry Schultz after he retired. Unfortunately, when money started getting tight, I could no longer justify the costs.

I recently purchased 2 DVD’s from Martin Armstrong’s on “Understanding How Capital Markets Work”. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a lot out of them. It was a recording of one of his lectures but it did not include any materials to read and study. I was hoping to learn how to interpret his models.

  3. SW,

The only information I pay for at the moment is John Williams It is not an investment letter, just information and real stats.

Free sites I visit regularly are mainly general economic or gold-type websites. The ones I link to in my blog posts.

I would be interested to know if you find any you like.
