  1. I finally watched this movie, and enjoyed it. Thanks for bringing it forward. It was refreshing to watch a bit of smart satirical human drama, much better than anything else I’ve seen in a while. Technical aspects of movies from the black-and-white era seem crude, but one also finds dignity, sophistication, subtlety, wit, and other artistic qualities sorely lacking nowadays, even among movies that pose as period pictures.

The absurdist depiction of the decadent upper crust brings to mind similar scenes and premises from the Hunger Games. Rooting for the underdog is still a successful formula, evidently. Can a moral person attain prominence at the top levels of today’s manipulated market and corporate environment? Only as a useful tool, I think. Such individuals are too rare to become meaningful instruments of reform.

I see the expression “forgotten man” was resurrected recently: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forgotten_Man:_A_New_History_of_the_Great_Depression

Did anything in particular run through your mind when you posted the clip from YouTube?
