  1. Well, what’s wrong with a European “slant” if the issue is deeply concerning and important to Europe. It is totally clear that it would be in the best interest of Europe to keep good relations with Russia, it’s most important supplier of energy and one of its most promising trade partners and market for EU products. Who cares whether Ukraine is ruled by a dictator and crook like Janukowytsch or a right wing government post Maidan with Nazi & SS loving ministers from the Svoboda party? Both are totally illigitimate and as Martin Armstrong says, all gouvernments always against the people. I have visited Ukraine last year and found comparatively an astonishingly good economic situation, especially in rural areas. Neither the US, nor the EU and by no means the IMF will improve their situation. All of these just pretend to care for the people but will only bring hardship. These post Maidan illigitamate right wingers are no improvement over a Russian puppet. The EU has to sort out the whole issue and get back to friendly relations with Russia. Even if Russia takes back Crimea and parts or all of Ukraine, that has been for centuries Russian anyway. The EU should not go along with efforts to paint Russia into a corner from which it can only move out by war. What a crazy idea of the German government now to talk to China about cooperating against Russia and threaten to encircle them. As Martin says it is insane to do the same thing again and again and to expect a different outcome: Western Europe has attacked Russia in the Napoleon wars, in WWI and in WWII. Each time ended with a desaster. Why not use history as a catalogue of solutions and avoid past errors? Ukraine has been devasteted in WWII, nearly half of all buildings have been destroyed in terrrible fighting between Russian troops and the Wehrmacht. Europe, Russia and the Ukraine have much more to win by finding a stable solution and get back to improving their peoples livelyhoods instead of edging closer to war with every day or by imposing sanctions and to offset against who has more to loose. All the people in the European house have all only to win if they keep their house in good order. NO war, NO sanctions, NO power plays but cooperation on all levels. That is the European slant.
